New Patient Information

Visiting a new dental office can be intimidating. We'd like to give you an idea of what your first visit will be like so that it is a positive, informative and enjoyable experience.

Your first visit to our office includes a full set of x-rays that allows us to see the positioning of your teeth, the surrounding bone, any tooth decay and developing teeth in the case of children. These x-rays are essential for the proper cleaning of your teeth and overall evaluation of your oral health. The initial visit also involves discussing your medical and dental history. Your oral health and the overall health of your body are linked in many ways. During your cleaning, your hygienist will take your blood pressure, perform an oral cancer screening and discuss why it is important to have healthy gum tissues. She will discuss some specifics on how you may improve, and if necessary may discuss gingivitis and periodontitis (gum and bone disease of the mouth).

Your first visit will take approximately 90 minutes.  At that appointment you, your hygienist and the doctor will make a plan for the frequency of your visits. Many people need to be seen on a 6 month basis. Certain individuals may need to be seen more frequenty, every 3 or 4 months depending on specific needs. Dr. Rand or Dr. Lawlor will review your x-rays with you and answer any questions you have. Together, you will come up with a plan for any treatment that you may need. We look forward to helping you maintain a healthy mouth. We typically start seeing children around the age of 4, however you may wish to bring your child in sooner if you have specific questions. Please contact us to set up an appointment or for more information about our services.
