Antibiotic Premedication For Dental Visits

 

There are two general reasons you would need to take antibiotics prior to coming to your dental cleaning visit.

 

1. You have a full joint replacement of your shoulder, hip, knee or ankle.

2. You have a heart defect that requires antibiotic pre-medication. Typically your physician will advise you if you need antibiotics prior to coming to see us if you are at risk for Infective Endocarditis (IE).  This group of individuals is much smaller than in years past.
